I have chosen to folliw the path of figurative drawing and painting. I paint what I want to see and what I want others to see, so my pictures are addressed to the mind as well as the eye. I am interested in the four elements as being the sensual symbols through which we feel and experience life. This painting is about water. I enjoy wild swimming and I noticed that it is a popular activity among women, who sometimes form their own clubs, so the painting depicts women engaged in an activity that women enjoy doing. The painting is not intended to be voyeuristic, the people depicted are healthy and sporty. Hopefully my painting transmits a feeling of strength and joy. The three primary colours, red, blue and yellow are an essential element of the composition, as are the three primary shapes, the triangle, the circle and the square.
My family originate from Edinburgh, though I was born and live in England. I went to Central/Saint Martins School of Art in London Alongside teaching art have exhibited in commercial galleries in Britain and Ireland, as well as the Mall Galleries in London. I gave been painting full time for the oast two years.
