Beautiful Prisoners responds to the Belarusian government’s mass imprisonment of political opponents, artists, writers, journalists, and cultural figures. Through layered collage, torn paper, and painted gestures, the work transforms birds into symbols of captivity, solidarity, and inner freedom. White doves emerge from fractured, dark surfaces, appearing caught between disappearance and survival. Overlapping forms evoke both confinement and collective endurance, while branching structures suggest prison bars and systems of control. Torn fragments embody rupture, censorship, memory, and repair. Despite an atmosphere of fear and isolation, the birds persist, expressing resilience, imagination, and spiritual resistance against oppression.
