‘Dance Yrself Clean’ depicts a flock of pigeons. The bright pink background and title respond to a club night of the same name at The Shacklewell Arms in London, a grassroots music venue infamous for vivid pink lighting. Here, I replace humans with pigeons, animals commonly regarded as 'dirty' urban pests, allowing the birds to occupy the dancefloor instead. The work questions why humans so readily position themselves above other species while engaging in similarly instinctive forms of flocking and display. The desire to appear alternative or culturally distinct ultimately gives way to a familiar collective behaviour, blurring the perceived divide between human and animal.
