Martyr I pays homage to those innocent human beings suffering in a world marked by displacement, trauma and coercive control. The bent form, blackened wood, nails, and bindings speak of pain, exhaustion and restraint, while the gold leafed triangle veiled in lace represents the inner self - fragile, sacred and preserved even under duress. The title Martyr I conveys both the endurance of suffering and the dignity of survival: a witness to pain yet also to resilience and the unbroken core within.
