Sand and cement, girls dress and wooden frame.

My research connects to trauma and how we can use variations of ourselves to explore past events as a coping mechanism. This led me to using alter egos as a way to create artwork that could test, trial and play with concepts such as space, time, history and reenacting past, troubling events to come to terms with difficult experiences. My PhD research generated three alter egos who, through auto-narrative writing, came to life and started to make artwork that was different from work I would make in my typical art practice. They became a space to imagine and create. They fought, they bickered, and they created fantastical stories and artwork. This piece is part of the generative process. This girl's dress is frozen in time by dipping it in concrete. It transforms it into an antiquity and allows the viewer to interpret it with their own stories and ideas of the life that was led by the little girl who would have worn it. 80cm tall x 45cm W without the plinth. 160cm h with plinth.
