Oil on wood Panel

h: 84 w: 60 d: 2 (cms).

Depictions of nature are rarely mere representations of the external world. In my work, landscape serves as a kind of cartography — mapping not a geographic place, but a more nebulous terrain. I draw on traditions both Eastern and Western; the resulting works are not records of place, but reflections on dream, reality, and the other place. Deployed here, the oval vignette, once used to enshrine saints, courtly portraits, pastoral scenes, and Victorian keepsakes, offered images of perfection and memory. Deployed in this way it frames something less certain — a terrain that hovers between states, yet resists resolution.
