I was immediately inspired by this scene when I first saw it with its strong contrast of tones. I loved the effect of a few sheep in silhouette in the shade whilst others were standing out in the bright light with the dark shadow behind them. The sheep have eaten the underside of the trees creating a visible horizontal line which plays against the vertical lines of the tree trunks. I was compelled to go back and draw this en plein air.
