The cafe interior and the street outside overlap as figures, reflections and architectural elements merge into a fragmented space. The image shifts between interior, exterior and the surface of the glass.

This painting depicts the window of Monellis, a restaurant in Hastings, on a cold and rainy day. The window intentionally fills the composition, creating a contrast between the rigid, geometric edges of the frame and the softer, more painterly marks of condensation across the glass. Diffused interior light and subtle distortions partially obscure the figures seated inside, allowing them to remain secondary to the overall atmosphere.
