I am passionate about creating art that tells a compelling story.
As a sculptor my preferred medium is clay. I love how it feels and how quickly the form takes on a life and personality of its own. I am particularly drawn towards sculpting creatures and figurative females who tell their unique story, that creates intrigue, draws the viewer in, willing them to touch, which I actively encourage.
I believe art should be captivating and always evoke an emotional response! I am passionate about animals and I feel deeply privilege to able to sculpt these beautiful creatures and contribute to raising awareness of how critically endangered the are. Together we can make a difference!
I sculpt in many mediums and finishes, although I particularly love casting my sculptures in Foundry Bronze. Choosing different patina finishes on each individual sculpture, of my limited editions, is exciting and brings the entire process together beautifully.
Min Reid is an award-winning British-Kiwi sculptor whose work explores the beauty, strength, and vulnerability of the natural world. Driven by a deep belief that art should captivate and always evoke an emotional response, her sculptures centre on her enduring passion: animals with a focus on endangered creatures. Each piece is conceived to tell its own story, drawing the viewer in and inviting touch; a tactile connection between artwork and audience that Min actively encourages.
Born in the jungles of Kuala Lipis, Malaysia, and raised across Jamaica, Hong Kong, and New Zealand, Min's life and work are shaped by movement, cultural diversity, and a deep respect for nature. She studied at the University of Auckland before embarking on a distinguished legal career, authoring two published White Papers for the European Union, working with Coopers & Lybrand Europe and the Belgian Government on gaming law reform, and securing a gaming licence for The Ritz Hotel, London. A profound turning point came when her young son's serious illness led her to refocus her life entirely, devoting herself to his care and pursuing a more creative and purposeful path.
In the midst of adversity, Min found solace in the process of sculpting. It brought her a sense of joy and fulfilment that helped her navigate through the challenges she faced, allowing her to find beauty in the midst of chaos and create something meaningful from the raw materials she had been given. It gave her the strength to heal.
Now based in Great Malvern, England, Min works primarily in clay, casting in foundry bronze and cold-cast bronze. She brings emotional depth and storytelling to every piece, with each limited edition distinguished by its own individual patina finish; a final, deliberate act of creativity that unites the journey from raw clay to finished work.
Through her practice, Min seeks to foster empathy for the natural world and a renewed awareness of its fragile balance. A portion of all sales supports wildlife conservation projects. Her sculptures ask nothing less than for you to feel.
