Because of my passion for animals and nature I have used this piece to romanticise the relationship between foxes and magpies as I have often found a correlation between people's feelings for both animals whether it is love or hate. Both species are maligned by society; either being hunted for fun or seen throughout folklore as a bad omen. I liked the idea of the Magpie having something to tell the Fox, which also relates to the old rhyme for Magpies, one for sorrow. The painting is part of a series of works under the title 'Into The Woods' in which I try to explore different narratives around the natural world and manmade items.

Wrens on the Rails depicts two Wrens on some old railings that are starting to be overgrown. I'm interested in the idea of nature reclaiming manmade items and the value that animals can find in discarded items in making their nests etc. In this piece I like the structure of the metalwork in contrast to the less rigid shapes of the plants. The painting is part of a series of works under the title 'Into The Woods' in which I try to explore different narratives around the natural world and manmade items.
