I am fascinated by the way light, weather and season affect the colours and forms within the landscape.  I begin by drawing en plein air. I enjoy using charcoal as I find it so free and versatile. Working on location is really important to me and allows me to absorb my surroundings.  I then take drawings back to my studio and play with colour to recreate the feeling of being in that space.   My sketchbooks are filled with colour experiments that eventually lead to larger scale paintings, that to me, represent my time spent in nature.

Claire Chandler (b. Hereford) is a London based abstract painter who explores the connection between nature and a sense of place. She spent much of her childhood living abroad, which later developed into a love of travel and experiencing new places. Claire studied at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, graduating with a BA(Hons) Fine Art in 1997.
