Painted Dog portrays an African Wild Dog, sculpted with the immediacy of a field sketch in clay – a fleeting encounter rather than a carefully composed portrait. Rusted iron and earth pigment patination echo the vibrancy of his coat, leaving the surface alive with energy and movement. Rather than striving for photographic realism, I wanted to convey the intensity of another being's gaze and the quiet presence of an individual. My work is rooted in those fleeting moments when an animal is simply, completely itself – where even the briefest encounter reveals the individuality of another life.
