Charcoal on painted board
h: 88 w: 154 d: 2 (cms).
Home made Willow charcoal on plywood board, my first big drawing in charcoal. An emotional piece for me as this was made from reference photos taken in Bristol, on Gloucester road, just above the Bristol Flyer pub. Our eldest son had been sectioned again and was in a Bristol hospital. I went up to visit him, and we were allowed out for two hours together. We sat in my van drinking coffee, when a big rain cloud came over. We took pictures through the windscreen, having fun arguing about the best one and he said it would make a great charcoal drawing. This was the first time we were able to have a proper conversation like this for some years. This was the largest drawing I have done in a long time. It needed to be this big in order to abstract the image and show the detail that my son and I were really enjoying. I found the eye moving around the piece a challenge, pushing my skills. It was on the easel for some time.
