This portrait unfolded over many years, allowing me to explore the role of memory and photographs in shaping my understanding of important people in my life. It provided a means of drawing a continuous line between past, current and future identities and experiences in our friendship. It speaks too of the sense of familiarity that I seek out and hold figural, in spite of the many changes that have occurred over 25 years.
